Shawn (Brixey, CNC’s Creative Director) and I hopped a plane this week to Dubai, traveling there to experience the 9th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF). It was a spectacular event, taking place almost entirely within the breathtaking Madinat Jumeirah resort. Our friends at DIFF generously hosted us, and they put on a world-class show. The closing night party, held 40 minutes outside of Dubai in the desert, was an evening to remember. (A panoramic view of that party is shown in the video at the bottom of this page. The purple-lit mounds are sand dunes.)
Another important reason for the trip was to meet with our Dubai partners for the 2013 Cinematic Innovation Summit — DIFF and naseba — and start planning for the event to be held one year from now. A big part of this involved scouting potential locations for the Summit in Dubai. We visited several high-quality venues with colleague Nic Watson, Managing Director of Sales and Marketing at naseba.
Dubai is a special place: bold, striving, energetic, futuristic. When we took an elevator to the top of the Jumeirah Emirates Towers hotel this week, we could see over the Earth’s horizon. What better place than Dubai to host the Cinematic Innovation Summit, an event providing a view over the horizon at cinema’s future.
